Evolution of
Hydrologic Methods through Computers Committee Progress Report -
2001 EWRI
Water Congress in Orlando
The Evolution of Hydrologic Methods through Computer
Committee was created last September and will meet for the first time
officially, at the 2001 EWRI Water Congress.
A pre-creation meeting was held last year in Minneapolis. The pre-creation meeting provided an introduction of
the committee members, an overview of the committee's purpose and objectives,
and made assignments in the invitation to recognized individuals for the
writing of papers to address the purpose of this committee. The committee will meet in Orlando to
present progress on the inviting of papers and any drafts generated to date. Further assignments will be made then. A summary of the committee purpose and
objectives, committee officers, and assignments are summarized immediately
below.
EWRI ACTIVITIES – Committee Purpose and Objectives
Proposed
Committee Name: Evolution of Hydrologic Methods through Computers
Parent
Committee: Surface Water Hydrology Technical Committee
Type
of Committee: Task
Committee
Purpose: The Committee shall present the evolution of computer applications as
developed for hydrologic analysis through publication of a paper and
presentations at ASCE/ EWRI conferences.
The paper shall consist of historical review of computational methods,
including simplified techniques utilized prior to the computer. Then the progression of computer techniques
into computer programs as the computer evolved from the earliest mainframe
through the latest PC versions.
Finally, a discussion of "is there a better way, with existing
hydrology, that the hydrologic process can be analyzed, which can be
incorporated with current computer capabilities".
Committee
Objectives (Publication or other end product): A collection of papers which
review the historical methods and techniques utilized in hydrologic analysis
would be appropriate for the 150th Anniversary conference in
Washington, D.C., in November, 2002.
Also, it is anticipated that a session will be held at the EWRI
conference in Philadelphia in 2003.
