BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION ON
Charles Ghilani

Dr. Charles Ghilani is a Professor of Engineering in the B.S. Surveying Engineering and A.S. Surveying Technology programs at Penn State. He holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a B.S. degree in mathematics and education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He has been involved in education since 1974; teaching at various levels from elementary through graduate school.

Dr. Ghilani has received numerous awards including: a Campus Innovation Award (1991) and Professional Development Award (1994), P.S.L.S. presidential commendation in 1990, Outstanding Club Advisor in 1992, a Distinguished Service Award from the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors in 1995, an American Congress on Surveying and Mapping (ACSM) fellowship (1999), and the Earle J. Fennell Award (2001) for outstanding service in surveying and mapping education from ACSM. He is a member of the graduate faculty at Penn State, University of Maine, and the University of Florida.

Dr. Ghilani is a member of the American Congress of Surveying and Mapping, the American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association, the Wisconsin Society of Land Surveyors, and the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors. Dr. Ghilani has authored several professional publications, including Adjustment Computations: Statistics and Least Squares in Surveying and GIS, 4th Edition, and Elementary Surveying: An Introduction to Geomatics, 12th Edition.

Dr. Ghilani has developed Internet courses for his students, and professionals. In the Summer of 1997, he offered his first course on the Internet to program students working at home. The course SUR 345 - Numerical Methods in Adjustment Computations was offered solely over the web. He recently completed a sequence of courses for Internet delivery. The courses are aimed at providing students with the basic knowledge in the areas of statistics, least squares adjustments, geodesy, and GPS. Hobbies

• Tractors, especially the two-cylinder kind. I have 21 tractors including my restored 1943 John Deere Model A
. I also have 3 JD 110's, 316, 3 B's, L, D, 3 M's, MC, MT, 40, 420C, Cub Cadet 104, Cub Cadet 7260ss, Farmall Cub, Cub 154 Lo-boy, and a Case VAC. I still need a JD G and H to complete my letter set of two-cylinder tractors.
• Read the Antique Owners Ten Commandments
• Football, Go Bucky!!! I am also a team owner of the Green Bay Packers. Go Pack!!! I've coached high school football in my past, but lost in the state championships. (Darn!)
• Gardening... It seems you can take the boy off the farm, but you can't take the farm from the boy.
