SURVEYING PAC MEETING

10:00 AM Meeting was opened by Dr. Charles Ghilani, presented following items

• Welcome from Dr. Mary Hines

• Review Minutes of October 17, 1996 meeting.
• Recommendations - Handouts distributed showing how each recommendation was addressed
• Enrollment Status - 81 students - 16 seniors, 6 juniors, 25 sophomores and 34 freshmen (with additional 10 freshmen starting in spring)
• Need for subcommittee for input on new brochure
• Graduate employment
• Equipment status
• Curriculum review and revisions
• Development of web page
• Subcommittee discussion of new brochures
• Volume 1 document - campus welcome, policies and procedures
• Volume 2 - more program specific; complete in spring for July distribution

11:15 AM ABET-RAC Accreditation

• Accreditation process, requirements, October 1998 visit

12:00 NOON Student Chapter Presentation

• Welcome from Ron Oberlander
• Items of discussion mediated by John Fuehrer
• Library facilities need to be more readily accessible
• Computer access - survey technology software only in lab, non survey technology students using lab when they have adequate facilities elsewhere
• Faculty - overall pleased
• Curriculum - Lacking in technical electives, need more legal and advanced programs, web base may work for legal aspects, more business courses
• Summer Schedule - lacking
• More real world survey application
• Campus food poor
• Scholarships
• Campus facilities - HVAC overlap (cold and hot extremes)
• Surveying Program Publicity

RECOMMENDATIONS:

• Library open more on weekends and later at night
• More computers with software needed by others elsewhere on campus
• Would like fifth faculty member to allow for more courses
• An extra faculty member would help open up advanced courses; need more technical electives; more business courses
• Rather than cancel due to lack of students, should poll students prior to course commitment
• Need more local businesses offering expertise

• Offer scholarship without class restriction

• More publicity
