CAMPUS MAP
While the Wilkes-Barre Campus provides a friendly, family-like environment with its picturesque grounds, small classes, and dedicated faculty, the campus also enables you to tap the resources of a large research university. Students at Wilkes-Barre Campus enjoy all the advantages of attending Penn State, including pursuing a degree at a university renowned for its academic excellence.

A striking blend of the traditional and modern is perhaps the best way
to describe the Wilkes-Barre
Campus. This lovely campus, nested in the rolling hills of rural northeastern
Pennsylvania, is part of a magnificent
former estate. The focal point of the fifty-acre campus is the Center for
Technology building, where the surveying engineering program is based, along with other
engineering programs. This campus is Penn State's Regional Center for Engineering
and Technology.
The 55-year-old Hayfield House with its marble fireplaces and fountain, stained-glass windows, and globelike chandeliers now serves as a center for administrative offices and campus activities. The campus also boasts a new $5.7 million Nesbitt Academic Commons Building, including a new library.
The Wilkes-Barre Campus' faculty are both dedicated researchers with outstanding credentials and excellent teachers. Students appreciate the attention they receive from these very approachable professors. One former student summed up his Wilkes-Barre Campus experience by saying, "In or out of class, there's a remarkable person-to-person relationship between professors and students. I feel very fortunate that I began my Penn State career here."
With six varsity athletic teams, seven intramural and club sports, and sixteen other clubs and organizations, the Wilkes-Barre Campus offers something for every extracurricular interest. One of the most active clubs is the Student Surveying Society, affiliated with the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors. Students regularly network with professional surveyors-a critical job search strategy. Students may also take advantage of outdoor recreation opportunities at Harvey's Lake, Rickett's Glen, (both only ten minutes away) and the nearby Pocono Mountains and Endless Mountains, including fishing, hunting, skiing, white-water rafting, swimming, and backpacking. Since the campus is only two and one-half hours from Philadelphia and New York City, individuals can enjoy shopping, sight-seeing, and cultural offerings in these metropolitan areas. In addition, downtown Wilkes-Barre, just twenty minutes away, hosts several museums and shops, as well as the Kirby Cultural/Entertainment Center, Wachovia Arena (arena football, hockey, concerts, etc), and PNC Field (AAA league baseball).
Because the Wilkes-Barre Campus is primarily a commuter campus, University-operated housing is not-available. However, a privately owned apartment complex is located adjacent to the campus, and the Student Activities Office maintains a complete list of off-campus housing, ranging from single rooms to apartments and houses rented by local residents.
One of the best ways to get the full flavor of the Wilkes-Barre Campus is to visit. To arrange an appointment for a campus tour and meeting with faculty and staff, contact the Admissions Office at 570-675-9238.
