Surveying Society Minutes 2007 -2008

 Meetings are held Mondays at noon in room T19 (Tech Center). 


Fall Semester   

 Monday September 17,  2007 

LSIT Training - Wednesday October 3, 2007 @ 5:00pm - 8:00pm; food and drink will be provided.

GEO-CACHE BBQ: 11:00am - 1:30pm

Golf Outing: Captain & crew style, 18 team maximum, need to set day & time, need information from golf courses, sign up team (4 man max) on ANGEL

Haunted Forest: Community Service Event, same plot as last year, Ben Steeneck is chairman of the event by unanimous vote.

Tuesday September 25, 2007: 9th grade high school students coming to Penn State Wilkes-Barre.  Will be holding a GEO-CACHE for them

Monday October 1, 2007

Haunted Forest: need help on the following dates: Oct. 13, Oct. 19 and Oct. 20.

LSIT Training: Wednesday October 3, 2007.  Food provided.

ACSM Conference: early March

Merchandise: This year we will be ordering sweatshirt, fluorescent green t-shirts, SECO vests, possibly Carhartt jackets and Carhartt sweatshirts.

The surveying society received a "good" portion from the SAFee

Haunted Forest Dates: Oct. 11-13, Oct. 18-20, Oct. 24-26

Golf Outing: Applewood Golf Course - For 9 holes: $20/person.  For 18 holes: $25/person     * includes cart rental

LSIT Review: there was a good turnout and a possibility of doing it next year.

Surveying Society Newsletter:  Lindy Larue will be heading it up for the fall semester, someone needed to head it up for the spring semester.  Articles are also needed.  Submitted articles need to be submitted to Dr. Seybert by October 22nd.

Merchandise: Fluorescent Green shirts, Carhartt jackets, polo shirts, work vests and decals.

Haunted Forest:  Help needed

Merchandise: Sign up in T-19    -Carhartt jackets with free embroidery, flannel shirts and sweatshirts

Golf Outing: Applewood Golf Course.  Date to be determined.  $25 for 18 holes with a cart.  4 man teams (captain and crew).  Possibly catered.

Boy Scout merit badge event: Rescheduled for November 10th.

Newsletter:  Rough drafts due October 22nd.  300 - 500 word articles.

Events:  Paintball at Skirmish  - $15/person, paintballs are extra

             Volleyball Tournament -  intramural event

             Traverse Challenge - end of the semester

PSLS:  Went well

            Thank you to all who came

 

Merchandise:  Sold alot at the conference (+/- $1000)

                      Ordering more hooded sweatshirts and Carhartt items

 

Events:    Volleyball - contact Jared Pantella if willing to help in organizing it; Will be held on a Wednesday in April; 6 person teams

                                 at $5/person

 

               Traverse Challenge - will be held last week in April over the lunch hour; possibility of cooking our own food.

 

               Paintball - will be held towards the end of March on a Saturday; $15/person, paintballs are extra; contact Jared Pantella if

                               interested.

 

               Golf - will be held at the end of March or early April on a Saturday at Apple Wood Golf Course

               

               Ice Fishing - sometime in the near future??

 

Don Bara has resigned from the office of the Vice President

 

Brain Bucholski and Matt Drumheller were nominated to replace him.  A vote will be held next week, February 4.

Volleyball tournament -  April 9, 2008 from 12pm- 7pm.

Paintball - Date is still to be decided.  Price: $15 w/o paintballs.

Golf - April 26, 2008; Captain & Crew style; price and the possibility of food is still to be determined.

Guest Speakers - Control Point Associates and PPS Inc. are possible candidates.

Newsletter - Articles needed!!

Merchandise - New sweatshirts are $20 each.  Camouflage hats will be ordered also.

Northwest PSLS Chapter Meeting - Every 3rd thursday of the month.  Next meeting is March 20 and they will be having the recorder of deeds for Luzerne county to speak.  On April 17, there will be a engineer speaking about mining fires.

PSLS N.E. Chapter Meeting - March 28, 2008 @ 7:00pm; the Luzerne Co. Recorder of Deeds will be present.

Woods Clean Up - Wednesday April 2, 2008; clean up the woods on the Penn State campus.

Nomination for Surveying Society - President: Jared Pantella and Brian Bucholski; Vice President: Brian Bucholski, Jared Pantella and Lindy Larue; Treasurer: Lindy Larue, John Chesnick, Chris Jackson and Josh Henry.

Speakers - March 27, 2008 @ 6:00pm.  Fugro Chance will be presenting and recruiting for full-time and summer hires.
