Resolutions
- WHEREAS there needs to be several years lead time to schedule locations for conferences; and WHEREAS there need to be continuity from one
conference to the next; and WHEREAS there needs to be along range planning of scheduling of conferences so as to not interfere with meeting times of
other related meetings, such as FIG Commission 2, and education institution course scheduling; THEREFOR BE IT RESOLVED that beginning in 1997
the host institution and venue for the Surveying and Mapping Educators Conferences, and a first alternate host institution and venue, be selected four years in
advance during each conference. Be it further resolved that the chairs of the immediate past, current, alternate and next designeated conference would form
the conference executive committee for the next conference.
- RESOLVED that the delegates of the 1997 Surveying and Mapping Educators Conference support the concept that the fundamentals portion of the NCEES
Surveying examination concentrate on subjects included in an ABET accredited 4 year surveying degree.
- WHEREAS surveying is a profession that encompasses the fields represented in both ACSM and ASPRS; and WHEREAS membership in both
organization is overlapping; THEREFOR BE IT RESOLVED that the leadership of ACSM and ASPRS find methods to increase cooperation and convene
joint conferences semi-annually.
- RESOLVED that the delegates of the 1997 SURVEYING AND MAPPING EDUCATORS CONFERENCE thank Drs. James Reilly and Steven Frank,
Faith Reilly and the New Mexico State University for planning and hosting the XVI SURVEYING AND MAPPING EDUCATORS CONFERENCE.
- RESOLVED that the delegates of the 1997 SURVEYING AND MAPPING EDUCATORS CONFERENCE encourage ACSM to establish guidelines for
minimal criteria for quality distance learning in Surveying/Geomatics.
- RESOLVED that when this group meets 4 years from now, the conference theme be "2001 - A SPATIAL ODYSSEY."
- RESOLVED that this conference promote honors courses/options in surveying and geomatics in an effort to promote excellence in the profession.
- RESOLVED that institutions offering Surveying/Geomatics programs are encouraged to develop articulation and transfer agreements so that 2-year degree
graduates can enter 4-year programs.
